Many thanks to the happy band of people who attended the church’s annual spring clean and churchyard tidy. There are a couple of folk missing from the photograph (one of them is the photographer!). We are grateful to them all.
Much dusting, polishing, sweeping, vacuuming and mopping was done inside the building, and all but the highest of the cobwebs were removed. Wax drips from over-eager candles were cleaned up and the brass memorial to the church’s first vicar was treated with Brasso and buffed. The whole place feels brighter – almost as if we banished the darkness of winter.
Outside, the daffodils, planted a few years ago from bulbs originating on the Easneye estate, are thriving, and the grassed areas look good (being regularly mown by much-appreciated volunteers all year round). However, there was still work to be done. For the best part of two hours, the whir of chainsaws, strimmers and hedge-clippers filled the air along with the snip-snipping sound of secateurs and loppers as the most significant overgrowth in the churchyard was cut back (it does keep growing!). The whole yard looks much better for Saturday’s extra attention.
We will be looking to hold another tidy-up in March next year. It would be wonderful to see a few more faces – these events are always enjoyable opportunities for conversation and building community, and the more people, the more that can be achieved! Watch this space for news of this and other events when they are announced.
